Freightliner reveals new truck concept [w/video]
Fri, 23 Mar 2012Freightliner Trucks has unveiled a new concept vehicle, dubbed the Revolution Innovation Truck, at the 2012 Mid-America Trucking Show.
Freightliner has built upon the first Innovation Truck, unveiled in 2009, and has updated the cabin with the latest technologies while keeping the essential day- and night-time functions of the tractor unit.
The Revolution Innovation has been aerodynamically optimized, with a sloping hood, low-mounted grille and an integrated, raised over-cab roof. This innovation in the day cab-sized category has increased spaciousness while reducing aerodynamic drag.
This reduction has been achieved by front vents that release air pressure across the front grille, rear wheel covers that control air flow to the rear of the trailer, a hidden toe step, flush door handles and the replacement of wing mirrors with side-view cameras.
Inside, a convertible driver's seat transforms into a sleeper for rest stops and overnight journeys, while a large sunroof and LED lighting aims to relax the driver.
Truck Operating System (TruckOS) combines the internet connectivity and entertainment options of a tablet with the on-board truck systems.
A rear door slides open to a large rear deck, and side steps give drivers a new way to easily access their trailer connections. A smaller side baggage door replaces a full-sized passenger door meaning that drivers are able to load the truck from ground level.
The Revolution Innovation Truck will be on show and available for demonstrations at industry events throughout 2012.
